France head coach Deschamps, whose team face Iceland and Turkey over the next week, said: “He has passed his tests. It is difficult to say how long he will be out – I am not a an expert on anatomy.
“As far as we are concerned, he will obviously not be there for these matches, nor the next ones. Protocols will be put in place for his rehabilitation.
“We are talking about weeks, even months. He will not return to the field in 2019, it is a near certainty.”
Lloris captained France to their World Cup triumph and Deschamps added: “His absence is difficult to quantify, he is very important, dominating, given his status.
It includes everything. It’s a loss for us even if it is the first injury he has had in his career.
“Other players will take over to allow the team of France to continue to perform.”
